There is 18 inches of space between the needle and the machine arm and 8 inches of height. You can stitch larger quilt patterns without rolling the fabric as often, too. You can operate from the front for freehand quilting or from the back, tracing a design with the laser stylus. Alternatively, you can install the laser stylus on the front and pin your pattern lower on the quilt top. AUTOMATIC STITCH REGULATOR Achieve uniform stitch results throughout, even as you change quilting speed or direction. The GrandQuilter 18.8 ensures uniform quality from the very first stitch to the last. The Control Unit offers “auto” mode with stitches per inch regulation in conjunction with encoders which sense the movement of the machine, and a “manual” mode with speed control. AUTO NEEDLE POSITION You can set the machine to stop with the needle up or down. This will minimize bent or broken needles and maximize free movement of the machine. LARGE BOBBIN CAPACITY Extra large capacity bobbin lets you quilt longer. Built-in bobbin winder makes life easy.
