Most of this tablet's life was spent as a wall-mounted device controller for home automation and was plugged in all the time so battery life is very good. (6+ hours?) The physical condition of the device is good. No obvious scratches on the front screen but a few minor scratches on the back. It comes with a black case if you want it, but it shows signs of wear especially in the spine. This device's second life for you is probably best spent as a consumption device via Prime or files you put on an external MicroSD card. Despite its age, the screens and stereo speakers at the bottom of the device make video an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, the Android 5 this is based on makes it incompatible with Netflix. Side-loading the Google Play Store gives you more app options, but apps are gradually getting more limited due to the age of Android. I found it usable for reading Kindle and Libby (sideloaded) books as well as email.
