Small-scale ethical dairy farm in Saanich is looking for a part-time dairy worker. The position involves a range of dairy farm related tasks including: Milking the cows; Filtering and bottling the milk; Cleaning all the milking equipment and milk parlour; Restocking supplies; Cleaning the paddock; Feeding and watering the animals; Grooming the animals; Farm infrastructure maintenance, and; Any other farm-related tasks as requested by the farmer. Milking is done with milking equipment (not by hand) The basic skills and qualifications for this position include: Must be 18 years or older; A love of animals; A willingness to learn; An attention to detail and cleanliness; Confidence around large animals; Being physically fit and strong; Being self-motivated; The ability to work on your own, unsupervised, and; Punctuality and reliability. Experience with large animals, especially cows, will be beneficial although not mandatory as long as you have the right personality. Also the ability to confidently use various power tools such as weed-whackers is desirable. The job involves lifting and moving 20 kg sacks of feed, bales of hay and bins, as well as handling manure on a daily basis, and 30 - 40 hours a MONTH arranged on a fairly flexible schedule that involves a split shifts made up of: A morning segment starting at 7:00AM and ending at 11:00AM; Various minor responsibilities during the day, and; An evening segment starting at 6:00PM and ending at 8:00PM.
