Date Posted: August 2, 2024 The Butchart Gardens is looking to fill the following position: DEPARTMENT: MAINTENANCE POSITION: ELECTRICIAN DUTIES: Working under the direction of the electrical supervisor • Install, maintain, and service a variety of building systems and related equipment including but not limited to emergency lighting, fire alarm, telephone, data cabling, fiber, DDC, controls, security, audio and video. • Install, maintain and service distribution systems of 120/208/240- and 600-volt 3 phase related to building lighting, HVAC, outdoor lighting, water delivery systems, emergency generators etc. • New electrical installations; EMT/PVC conduit, overhead and underground installations, wood frame and steel stud. • General servicing and troubleshooting of office, commercial kitchen, marine, greenhouse, specialized equipment, fixed and mobile communication equipment. • Assist supervisor with project requirements, specifications, material lists and estimating. • Perform work at a Journeyperson level, maintaining necessary records. • Act as FSR when required. REQUIREMENTS: • Valid Red Seal TQ as an Electrician. (Construction or Industrial). • Qualification as an FSR B, or be willing to take and pass the FSR B exam. • Accreditation and experience related to data cabling, control systems, life safety systems, access control, communication equipment and DDC would be an asset. • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to analytically problem solve, prioritize, multi task and work independently. • Competency to interpret and work from plans, and trouble shoot from schematics. • Working knowledge of the current Canadian Electrical Code and other applicable codes, regulations, and standards. • Familiarity with and adherence to WHIMIS, and Work Safe BC regulations. • Valid BC driver’s license with clear abstract. • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Applications. • Must be capable of physical work in all types of weather (a physical assessment will be required). • Must be willing to participate in after hours on call rotation. • Must supply own hand tools. This is a year-round, full-time position with a 6-month probationary period. Shifts will be primarily 7:00am – 3:30pm Monday to Friday although some overtime and evening work should be expected. We offer competitive wages up to $39.60 per hour depending on experience and qualifications, 3 weeks’ vacation, (plus an additional 2 weeks paid staff holiday during The Gardens closure), flexibility for time off, health and dental benefits, matched RRSP benefits, following a six-month probationary period. The position will commence at a mutually agreed upon date.
