She spent some years in Victoria as a young woman before returning to China where she met her husband, Ernest. Her son Fenwick Lansdowne was born in 1937 in Hong Kong. Edith and Fenwick were evacuated to Victoria during WWII. Ernest stayed behind and was subsequently interned by the Japanese for the duration of the war.
