Hello! We are a family of 4 with 2 young kids (L is in grade 1 and A is in grade 3). We live in a beautifully renovated house very close to UVic and a 15-minute stroll to the beach. We both work from home and are around most of the time. We often invite another family to join us for dinner on Friday nights. In the summer, we go camping as often as we can manage it with our busy lives. We are looking for someone who is community-minded, likes kids, loves good food and enjoys good company to join our household for a while. We have had great experiences in the past with housemates who we’ve shared food and cooking with, played board games with after the kids are in bed, and joined in with some of our social activities. We’d love to find the right person to share our home with again: someone who shares some interests with us but also has their own activities. It needs to be someone who gets along well with kids and is comfortable with a lot of energy in the house. About the space: - Our bright and sunny south-facing kitchen/living room with a new deck attached is the primary space where we spend time. You are welcome and invited to share it with us! - You would have your own medium-sized bedroom at the end of the hallway next to the kids’ room. It can be furnished or unfurnished (currently there is a queen-sized bed, a dresser, small desk, and a couple of bookshelves) - Our master bedroom is on the other side of the kids’ room with an ensuite - There is a small powder room next to your room which would be mostly for your use, but sometimes used by guests or the kids - You would also share the main bathroom which has a shower and bathtub - There is a large family room that tends to be used as a play room / fort-making space most of the time, and is also used as a sleeping space when we have houseguests - Laundry facilities are available and we can provide space in the garage for a bicycle or sports equipment (within reason) - There is plenty of parking on the driveway or the street About the neighbourhood: - We live on a quiet street with great neighbours, most of whom are older than us - It takes us less than 10 minutes to walk to the UVic bus loop, where you can catch a bus to just about anywhere or hop in an Evo - You can walk to Pepper’s grocery store in Cadboro Bay, though we do most of our grocery shopping down Mckenzie street at Fairway Market, Thrifty’s, or the Root Cellar - The trails of Haro Woods are just at the end of the block The restrictions/things you need to know: - At the moment, we don’t have any pets, but we would certainly consider someone who has a well-behaved, kid friendly dog. Unfortunately not everyone in the house is a cat person :( - We’re pretty sensitive to strong scents – there’s no smoking and we would also request you avoid using strongly scented products like perfumes, etc - We don’t do much drinking of alcohol – it’s fine if you like to indulge in the occasional beverage, but this isn’t a good fit for a partier - We don’t eat pork and we request that you don’t bring pork into the house... but beef bacon is welcome :) - We are omnivorous and would ideally like to find someone whose dietary needs and preferences are aligned with ours (as we like the idea of sharing food and meals), but there is certainly flexibility there and we would be happy to do more vegetarian eating - The room will be available starting January 1st If this sounds like a good fit for you, please respond to tell us a little about yourself and your plans. Wishing you well in your house-hunting! Katie and ilan
