After two long years of COVID-19, baseball is back in Victoria—and you can be part of the team! Victoria HarbourCats baseball is seeking host families for the 2022 season beginning on May 31 with their home opener. “We’re excited to be back playing baseball after two years! Host families are a huge part of what we do — and we couldn’t do it without them!” says Assistant General Manager Christian Stewart.
Batter up!
Host families play an important role for individual players and the team, providing a home-away-from-home for an aspiring collegiate-level player. Players come from all over North America to play in the West Coast League, playing their collegiate ball in some of the most prestigious baseball programs on the continent.
Players share common goals and dreams for their baseball and academic careers, striving for success in the classroom and on the field of play. As a host family, you play an integral role in the life of a student-athlete and aspiring professional player.
Home run
Primarily, you provide a safe and pleasant home environment for your player(s) for the season, which runs from May 31 to the middle of August. Athletes require fuel to play, so two meals per day, usually breakfast and dinner, will be needed, with some flexibility for game days.
Many host families become lifelong friends with the young men they host and the experience is a positive one for everyone. One repeat host family notes that “We have formed permanent family ties with these boys, have chosen to travel and visit them, and hope to keep lifelong connections with our family and our young boys — they are so patient and kind with their billet brothers!”
Aside from the priceless value of memories made and connections with these aspiring and inspiring young men, host families receive standard compensation in addition to HarbourCats season tickets. What’s not to love?
Safe!
All athletes are required to be fully vaccinated as are all staff and coaches. Victoria HarbourCats follows all league protocols, and want to ensure host families that all reasonable steps have been taken to protect players and hosts.
