Offered for sale this Artist Proof silkscreen print signed by First Nations Native artist Ross Hunt Sr. The silkscreen print is in very nice condition, matted and framed behind glass, measuring framed 19.5 inches in height x 25.5 inches in width. The print depicting Mans transformation from a Two headed sea serpent 'Sisiutl' is a legendary cultural tale. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Hunt, Ross Sr. (b. 1948) Cultural Group : Kwagu'ł, Kwakwaka'wakw Ross Hunt Senior, born in 1948, is a member of the Fort Rupert Band of the Kwagulth people. He credits his elders and family for his artistic inspiration. His father, the late Chief Thomas Hunt, was a singer and orator and his mother, the late Emma Hunt, was an instructor in the teaching of Kwagulth and Nuu chah nulth culture. Hunt apprenticed under his uncle, the late Chief Henry Hunt, for four years and with Tony Hunt for six years at Arts of the Raven Gallery in Victoria. He has worked with other noted artists including Calvin Hunt and John Livingston. Ross Hunt Sr. currently lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.* *Cited from www.pacificeditions.ca The sisiutl is a legendary creature found in many of the cultures of the Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast. It is typically depicted as a double-headed serpent with fish qualities, sometimes with an additional central face of a supernatural being. The sisuitl features prominently in Pacific Northwest art, dances and songs. The sisuitl is closely associated with shamans because both are seen as mediators between the natural and supernatural worlds.[1] The word for "sisiutl" in Tsimshian is Laqaqua'sa, which literally means "both sides head".[2]
