Tent material is much more expensive polyester and not nylon, which prevents stretching or sagging in the rain and when wet. The exterior pole system allows the Inner tent to be attached/de-attached to the outer fly, which makes the tent much easier to erect in a strong wind and the inner tent remains dry in a strong rain.
