Offered for sale this framed coloured drawing on paper, signed with initial H.J.T. in the lower right hand corner by Canadian artist Harold J. Treherne and dated Sept. 1961. The drawing titled “Old Batch” is in very nice condition and framed it what appears to be the original frame, measuring approximately 12.75 inches in height x 21.25 inches in width. The back of the frame displays a few exhibition labels including the Dunlop Art Gallery label, placing this drawing as part of Harold J. Theherne - A Retrospective exhibit held 1983 - 1985 and in partnership with the Regina Public Library in Saskatchewan. Harold Theherne considered one of Saskatchewans greatest Folk Art artist, didn’t take up drawing until the age of 57. Self taught his goal was to capture the grassroots feeling of growing up, living and working as a farmer in Saskatchewan. Born in 1899 and passing in 1975, He became celebrated by many for his ability to depict everyday life in Rural Saskatchewan using everyday mediums like pen, pencils, and pencil crayons. Noted for his folk art off scale sizing, that made his subject matter become more compelling and primitive.
