A very exquisite piece. The vibrancy of the colours, the supple grace of the flowers, the deep tones of the browns and greens, are very much on display in this miniature. This painting was done on the back of used stamp paper belonging to the Jaipur Government. It carries inscriptions on one side and the official government stamp on the other. This type of paper was, and is, still preferred because it is free of artificial chemicals and therefore does not damage the quality and sheen of the paint over time. measures 13"x9"
Indian miniature painting is an art form that can be traced back to the 10th century. Jaipur in Rajasthan was, and still is, the centre for these fine miniatures. The artists use a palette of natural organic colours, as well as real silver and gold, to bring miniature paintings to vibrant life.
