A BEAUTIFUL RENDITION OF LORO BIONYO, OF WOOD AND TERRACOTTA. CIRCA MID 1800's, from Java In the areas surrounding the royal palaces in present-day Solo and Jogyakarta in Central Java, the representation of a figure named Sri evolved over time from a classical Indian form to one that was much more human in appearance and more Indonesian in posture and conception. Original bronze gave way to wood and terracotta. The female consort, Sadono was added to provide companionship for Sri, and to protect rice fields but his importance in the Javanese mind is suggested by the fact that he was never seen alone. The Javanese name for the sculptural pair is Loro Blonyo which means "inseparable couple". Male: Height: 20 in Depth at widest point 8 in Female: Height: 18 ½ in Depth at widest point: 7
