The Support Worker will support the 21 Indigenous women living at Spa'Qun House (culturally-supportive housing) Full-time, part-time or on-call positions available KEY RESPONSIBILITIES * Provide one-on-one support, advocacy, mentorship, and resources * Provide information about support services as needed * Participate in life-planning and support the women * Provide group support and support for cultural-activities * Maintain the safety and security of the building * Respond to emergencies Required consent to Criminal Records Check Required valid First Aid certificate Preferred valid Driver's License Experience - 1 year related experience preferred * Preferred experience working with Indigenous peoples * Required experience or personal insights into working cooperatively and non-judgmentally with people with disabilities, lived experience, addictions, etc. * Experience working with non-profit organizations, family support and social services Education preferred relevant post-secondary education and/or training in combination with a minimum of one year's related experience Skills and Abilities * Excellent ability to deal professionally, effectively and non-judgmentally with people with lived experience * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Excellent organizational skills: * Solid time management skills, ability to prioritize a variety of tasks within a given timeline * Accurately track and submit program expenses, invoices, and stipends * Computer literate * Ability to work both independently, take initiative, delegate tasks and also work collaboratively * Positive, encouraging, flexible, and reliable * Progressive understanding of mental health challenges, chronic alcoholism, substance use, and addictions, and the resulting impacts to overall health, wellbeing, and quality of life * Knowledge of trauma, colonization and the residue of the Indian Act, Residential Schools, Sixties Scoop, and other oppressive systems Term: It is expected that those selected will be available for training between January 27th and January 31st 2020 Commence part-time and/or full-time employment in mid to late February 2020. Full-time/house opening in March 2020 Preference given to qualified candidates with Indigenous ancestry
