Aquatics Volunteers Needed!

The MS Society is looking for volunteers to help with our Aquatics Program at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre. The program runs on Mondays from 12:30pm-1:30pm starting September 9th and ending November 25th, with a break on stat holidays. The program returns again in January. Purpose To provide support to both clients and professional staff in the Aquatics exercise program Tasks * Providing support to both clients and professional staff in the Aquatics exercise program may include: o assisting clients with exercise equipment, as directed by the Instructor - NO LIFTING o enabling clients to participate in exercise programs by providing guidance o helping to make sure clients are safe throughout the program * To dress appropriately for a professional pool program, including full bathing suit. Time Commitment * Weekly shift during the Instructor's session; Mondays from 12:30pm-1:30pm at Oak Bay Rec Centre * Minimum commitment of 3 to 6 months * Attend appropriate scheduled training and orientation sessions Skill Requirements * Good communication and interpersonal skills * Comfortable in the water * Punctual and reliable * Enthusiastic * Able to work comfortably with people with disabilities * Able to maintain confidentiality of all personal information gained through interactions at the program * Willing to take direction as required * Able to take initiative Training, Screening and Skill Development * Orientation to the MS Society's volunteer program * Education about MS, its symptoms, and its effects on the lives of clients and their families * Consent to Disclosure of Personal Information (Criminal Record check) once every 5 years * Position-specific training * Other training and supervision as required Supporting Policies * Let the lead Aquatics Instructor know by phone if you are not able to attend a class * Follow all position-specific procedures Benefits * Invitation to the yearly volunteer recognition event * Potential individual recognition * Interaction with others in a social setting * Development of interpersonal and leadership skills To apply, contact Jenessa at Jenessa.Noviello@mssociety.ca
