$99 · PAIR Vintage Longquan China Celadon 12" Oval Platters Embossed Double Koi Signed

Here are TWO 12" X 7.75" vintage platters from Longquan, the centre of Celadon pottery-making in China. Celadon green represents the colour of jade, which is highly valued in Asian culture. The Chinese culture reveres a large number of other items from Nature. Koi fish is one of the treasured national symbols found in Chinese art through the ages. Koi, or carp represent strength and perseverance. Bamboo, lotus flowers, and dragons are other Chinese symbols frequently found embossed on Celadon pottery. The double koi on these platters entwine in a perfect yin-yang embrace, indicating their interconnectedness in the Natural World. Encircling the fish out to the edge of the oval rim are lotus petals representing purity. It is unusual to find two 12" platters together in such good condition. These platters have seen little use. There is one minor scratch on the clear overglaze on one of the plates. The platters are not fragile - together they weigh over 1.5 Kg. (+3 pounds).
