This boat was hand built in here in Victoria (Saanich). The boat, mast, boom, tiller/rudder are all wood; varnished red and yellow cedar and some mahogany. The dagger board is aluminum. The boat bottom has been coated with white anti-fouling paint. It has two custom-made paddles that slot in to the insides of the boat. The boat is a European Pirat design; very similar to a Lightning. The Pirat was designed in 1934 by the German boat builder Carl Martens. A dinghy sailed by two persons and measures 5.0 meters long by 1.6m across. The maximum sail surface, comprising two sails, amounts to 10 m². The Pirat Class has also been used by the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets as a youth trainer. As it is a wooden hull boat, the boat hull needs to primed if it has been stored on land, by adding water to the bilges to swell up the interior planks over 3-5 days. Once the boat goes into the water the outside planks will get more moisture in them and that could help seal them. The attached photos are of my YACHT.
