Vintage Camco LA Snare COB 6.5" X 14" - One Owner! I bought this drum new from "Drums Only" in Vancouver B.C. in the mid 70s. The drum has been quite well cared for over the years and considering it's age is in good shape. According to my knowledge and research, this a Camco model 712M. A 10-lug Chrome Over Brass 6.5" X 14" snare. There is minor pitting on some of the chrome especially on the snare throw (see picture marked 2). The lugs are in good shape. The shell has some minor scratches and light scratches or swirls in places. In picture #11 you can see some rippling in the metal on the inside of the drum. This is where it was dropped once and dented. The dent was removed but you can still see some imperfections. On the outside of this area is the snare Strainer and so you can't really see the damage from the outside of the drum. (see pics marked 2 and 4). The snare comes with the original Camco tension key that inserts into the built-in holder. Included with the drum is a 6.5" X 14" Protection Racket Case which is in very good shape. The batter head is an Evans Genera and the snare-side head is an Evans Hazy 300. Much of the drum is original although I changed the original Lug Mount screws to stainless steel internal Hex screws. I had to use extra washers to achieve a tight fit. You can see this in Picture marked 6. The rims are 2.3mm hoops and are not original. The current tension rods on the drum are not original although I do have the original tension rods and will be including them. (see picture) The snare wires are not original. There was a factory fault with the snare throw where the snare would come off on a hard rim shot but I did some work on the strainer mechanism and it seems to be fixed. I am somewhat hesitant to sell the drum but it has not been used much over the last several years. It seems like maybe there is someone out there that can appreciate a vintage Camco snare that might actually use this. As an interesting historical side note, "Drums Only", where I bought the drum, was owned by Ray Ayotte who would go on to form Ayotte Drum. Later Ray Ayotte would involve himself with the making of Taye Drums.
