$1,750 · 1930s "Coracle" brand elaborate picnic set

Antique "Coracle" brand heavy wicker picnic basket set from 1930s, used in Cowichan Valley. These large, elaborate, and heavy picnic sets were designed for use with the automobile. Set has enamelware place settings for six, designed to look like white china with gilded edges, which of course are now chipped. One of the three wicker-wrapped bottles has been replaced by a smaller one of different wicker pattern. A couple of pieces missing, one knife replaced by very similar knife of same era, same company. The small heavy china teacups are made by Bishop and Stonier; one is missing. Teapot appears to be missing an extension off spout. Some rust, staples loosened in the interior lining. Burner for heating water, polished metal containers possibly for sandwiches. Leather strapping and wicker-on-wire forms hold everything in place for travel. Small drinking glasses of graduated sizes allow them to be packed inside each other, each with a wicker form separating it from the next to avoid breakage. Basket has metal carrying handles on ends, for transport flat; metal bar through hasps on front edge allow locking the basket with the (original) padlock. LOCATED IN DUNCAN
